Eliminate Facial Tics With The Help Of Ericksonian Hypnosis and NLP

Facial tics are short, repetitive, irregular twitches of the muscles of the face. They are extremely diverse, but the most common ones are eye blinking, facial grimacing, nose wrinkling, mouth twitches, squinting as well as grunting and throat clearing. Those tics are usually symptomatic of neurological conditions such as Tourette syndrome. They traditionally occur during childhood and often disappear within some weeks, even if some can last much longer.

The causes of facial tics still are not very well understood, but a few things are suspected of triggering or worsening the symptoms. Tics may result from some nutritional deficiencies such as a magnesium insufficiency, but they are also very often symptoms of other disorders such as Tourette syndrome, whose causes are thought to be neurological, and, to a certain degree, genetic. Anxiety and stress have also been proven to provoke and significantly increase the frequency of facial tics.

Facial tics can be hard to deal with everyday particularly for children. Teachers, schoolmates and even sometimes parents, might not be able to understand how difficult it is to try to hold back tics, particularly for an extended period of time such as for instance a class. People will most often tell the child to "quit it", or might even make fun of him or her because of the tics.

From facial grimaces to eye blinking, tics almost always feel inappropriate and embarrassing for adults and children alike. It is also fatiguing when one must try to control them all the time. This obsession might cause you to become excessively self-critical and you might in turn start to lose self-confidence or to develop some kind of social anxiety.

It is however possible to get rid of this uneasiness and to avoid people's awkward looks. There are ways to significantly diminish, and sometimes completely cure, facial ticks, in order to find your peace of mind and enjoy a completely regular life. You would never have to worry again about facial grimaces or holding back any of these annoying twitches.

Facial tics are traditionally not treated or, in some acute cases or when the tics are shown to be caused by Tourette syndrome, patients may be given antipsychotics which are also used to treat disorders such as schizophrenia, attention deficit disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorders. Those drugs were not developed to treat facial tics specifically and can not always be efficient.

Furthermore, they are well known for their several negative side effects both on the short and long term. Depression, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, weight gain and anxiety are only some of the many negative side effects which are associated with such drugs. Some of them can even aggravate tics over time! But there are however other ways of dealing with facial tics which are fully natural and void of negative side effects.

Methods which utilize hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) have been developed especially in order to treat facial tics. They can help you reduce them over time. In order to understand how these methods work it is useful to remember that tics are not a totally physiological disorder and are not totally involuntary either. They are a response to an unconscious impulse to do the movement of the tic. This impulse uncomfortably builds up as you try to avoid performing the movement. These urges also grow in both intensity and frequency when the patient is stressed or anxious or when he is placed in a particular situation.

Facial tics are a way to diminish pressure when you are anxious or are coping with stressful conditions. This unconscious association can be cured using NLP and hypnosis since they are able to change the kind of behavior your unconscious provokes when facing certain situations. In severe cases, the therapist will eliminate the facial tic by suggesting the unconscious make you move your toe instead. When you twitch your toe it is not visible or apparent to people around you. Hypnosis also makes you become a lot more relaxed in general, so it is a soothing experience. It will help you suppress both the stress and anxiety which worsen facial tics.

Facial tics come in many different forms: eye blinking, nose wrinkling, mouth twitches, squinting, facial grimacing, grunting or throat clearing. If tics have physical causes, there are also as we have seen, very strong psychological factors. Anxiety and stress are unquestionably the most considerable of those factors. Tics have their roots in the unconscious mind as a response to states of anxiety and stress; using NLP and self-hypnosis you are able to change this association. Anxiety and stress can also be efficiently fought on the long term with the stress relieving and soothing techniques of hypnotherapy, which will greatly decrease the occurrence of facial tics.
