Reducing Facial Tics With Ericksonian Hypnosis And Nlp

Facial tics are repetitive, short, sporadic spasms of the face's muscles. They can be extremely different, but the most usual ones are facial grimacing, eye blinking, nose wrinkling, mouth twitches, squinting as well as grunting and throat clearing. Such tics are often symptomatic of neurological disorders such as Tourette syndrome. They usually occur during childhood and can fade away within some weeks, even though some can last indefinitely. The causing factors of facial tics are still poorly understood, but a few things are suspected of triggering or worsening the symptoms. Tics can be caused by some nutritional deficiencies such as a magnesium insufficiency, but they can also very often be symptoms of other disorders such as Tourette syndrome, whose causes are most likely neurological, and, to a certain degree, genetic. anxiety and stress have also been shown to trigger and considerably increase the frequency of facial tics. Facial tics are tough to live with particularly for a child. Teachers, schoolmates and even sometimes parents, may not be able to understand how tough it is to try to hold back tics, particularly for an extended time period such as for example a class. People will very often ask the child to "quit it", or may even mock him or her because of the tics. From eye blinking to facial grimaces, tics always feel inappropriate and embarrassing for both adults and children. It is also tiring when one must try to control them all the time. This obsession could make you excessively self-critical and you could in turn start to lose self-confidence or to develop some type of social anxiety. It is however possible to eliminate this uneasiness and to avoid other people's uncomfortable looks. There are ways to considerably reduce, and sometimes definitely cure, facial ticks, in order to restore your peace of mind and enjoy a completely regular life. You would never have to be concerned anymore about facial grimaces or controlling any of those irritating twitches. Facial tics are traditionally left untreated or, in some severe cases or when the tics are proven to be caused by Tourette syndrome, patients may be given antipsychotics which are also prescribed to treat disorders such as attention deficit disorder, schizophrenia or obsessive-compulsive disorders. Such drugs were not designed to treat facial tics particularly and may not always work. Moreover, they are known to have numerous negative side effects both on the short and long term. Depression, insomnia, weight gain, sexual dysfunction and anxiety are only some of the many negative side effects which can be caused by those drugs. Some of them can even worsen tics in the long run! But there are however other ways of dealing with facial tics which are fully natural and free of negative side effects. Methods which use (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and hypnosis have been designed especially for the purpose of treating facial tics. They will help you reduce them over time. In order to understand how such methods work it is useful to know that tics are not a purely physical condition and are not completely involuntary either. They are an answer to an unconscious impulse to do the movement of the tic. This impulse disagreeably builds up as you try to avoid performing the movement. These impulses also increase in both intensity and frequency if the patient is stressed or anxious or if he is placed in a particular situation. Facial tics are a way to diminish pressure when you are anxious or are placed in a stressful environment. This unconscious association can be treated with hypnosis and NLP, as they make it possible to modify the kind of behavior your unconscious triggers when you are placed in certain situations. In severe cases, the therapist will suppress the facial tic by suggesting the unconscious make you move your toe instead. When you twitch your toe it is not apparent or visible to people around you. Hypnosis also allows you to become a lot more relaxed in general, so it is a stress relieving experience. It will help you get rid of both the anxiety and stress which aggravate facial tics. There are many different kinds of facial tics: nose wrinkling, eye blinking, mouth twitches, squinting, grunting, facial grimacing or throat clearing. Although tics have physiological causes, there are also as we have seen, very strong psychological factors. Anxiety and stress are unquestionably the most important of these factors. Tics have their roots in the unconscious mind as an answer to states of anxiety and stress; with NLP and self-hypnosis you will be able to alter this association. Anxiety and stress might also be efficaciously fought in the long run with the relaxing, stress relieving techniques of hypnotherapy, which will significantly decrease the occurrence of facial tics.
